Program Note: The Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano was composed in the summer of 2003 and premiered by dedicatee David Parks. The work has been performed numerous times by multiple saxophonists across the United States and has been professionally recorded by David Wozniak. Containing microtones, slap tonguing, altissimo register, extreme dynamics, and frequent meter shifts, the Sonata is a vehicle for virtuoso performance and was written to be a recital-ending showpiece.
