Issue No. 30: The Process Podcast

I was recently interviewed for the podcast The Process and that episode will debut this coming Friday! Hosted by Doug Bielmeier, we listened to my 2014 composition Ondes et Ombres and discussed my earliest composer gigs, working with form, and the importance of the audience.

The Process is a podcast that, according to its host/founder, “aims to understand the creative process by listening to new works and discussing them with their creators. Each episode focuses on one composer and their music. By understanding how and why they create can inform aspiring composers and help audiences better understand contemporary classical music.”

Interestingly, Bielmeier requests that each guest choose a few “Creative Cogitations” from a provided list to better spark (provocative) conversation. Some of these include:

  • Do your creations define your identity?

  • Do you believe in talent or hard work?

  • Do you savor obscurity and the freedom it affords you?

  • Can a creator really sell out?

  • Does being poor suck?

Which of these did I choose? Tune in Friday to find out!

Recent episodes of The Process feature powerful names in new music including Cassie Wieland, Robert McClure, Forbes Graham, Stefanie Lubkowski, Erin Rogers, and Lisa Neher. Don’t miss out on their interviews!
